San Diego Trails: Manchester Preserve

San Diego Trails: Manchester Preserve

Manchester Preserve in Encinitas has several different trails, varying in length and difficulty, so it really has something for everyone. There are gently sloping canyons, steep climbs to get you panting if you’re up to it, and loads of lovely things to see. You can wander through chaparral habitats or coastal sage shrub, and the best bit is it isn’t actually miles from anywhere, even if you think it is, it’s in the center of a suburban development so very easily accessible.  If you’re going to follow the main trail just allow yourself a couple of hours, that should be plenty of time.

Manchester Preserve is home to several different endangered species of birds and plants, so you are asked to stick to the paths and keep your dogs on a leash, but that’s only fair really isn’t it? It’s also home to the odd rattlesnake or two so it’s actually safer for everyone concerned as well.
