San Diego Trails: Encinitas Ranch

Encinitas Ranch was developed a little over 15 years ago, incorporating 900 homes, a fantastic golf course and also plenty of trails for the locals and visitors to enjoy. The trails, (around 9 and a half miles in all) are open to hikers, bikers and equestrians, as well as a great place to take dogs for a walk, just so long as they are kept on a leash. It’s difficult to believe that it was once a part of the Ecke Ranch, one of the largest producers of Poinsettia in Encinitas since 1923.

The City of Encinitas website has a map which you can easily download, and then you can just make your own route, it doesn’t really matter where you go along the trails at Encinitas Ranch, there’s a great view waiting around every corner. The trails lead largely around the golf course and as you walk on the top of the ridge (or down below, it’s up to you) you’ll pass giant eucalyptus trees to provide a little welcome shade as well as groves of Torrey pine trees.

Encinitas Ranch really is a little bit of country in the center of  a housing estate with some of the most amazing views. You’ll be able to see all the way to the foothills of Ramona and Poway as well as a great view of Rancho Santa Fe.
