Does It All Cold Weather Boot, November 30, 2013
    By
    Jack Hart (New York) –

I took a month or more trying to decide on a do-it-all cold weather boot and I think I looked at just about everything out there. From Timberlands, to Sorels, to Danners, to Irish Setters, to Kamiks, Red Wings, Red Heads, Cabela’s, etc. I will admit at first I was drawn somewhat to appearances, but in the end I wanted a boot that could handle every day snow shoveling duties and sledding with the kids, as well as walking around slush and snow in town, but not be too heavy to drive in comfortably either. I also really wanted an easy on/off boot as I am in and out of the house constantly. The thought of having to lace up and unlace a boot several times a day was really unappealing, but for the right boots I would have dealt with it. Happy to say, these boots met all my requirements and, after about a month of use in the early snowfall we’ve had this season in upstate NY, am I ever glad I bought a pair. They are totally warm if you are doing any kind of activity (and wearing the right kind of socks), totally water- and snow-proof, exceedingly (and surprisingly) comfortable and cushiony, are very well built and fit pretty much dead on. The soles are also very grippy on snow and ice, a huge plus over some duck boots I looked at. The tall height does not bother me at all (in fact I specifically looked for boots over 8-10″ in height to keep out the taller snowfalls), and do not chafe my legs in the slightest. I keep my pant legs tucked into the boot for the most part and find that works really well with these boots. I do not feel any heat loss whatsoever on my foot as a result of the slight opening at the tops of the boots. My feet have stayed warm, dry and above all seriously comfortable!

Now, I already have an expensive pair of leather hunting boots with 1000 grams of Thinsulate. They are fantastic for sitting in a tree stand at 0 degrees Farenheit for hours at a time. I would never use those boots to shovel the driveway, or walk for any considerable distance, however, as my feet would eventually begin to sweat and become cold soon thereafter. Similarly, I would never use these boots for long periods of inactivity in the cold. People need to understand this concept when they buy cold weather boots. Determine what you are going to be doing in them and go from there. If you are going to be even mildly active in winter boots, less insulation is essentially better (to a point). These boots do exactly what I ask of them and, in my opinion do it better than any other boot – and for that I have to give them 5 stars. The only thing I cannot comment on at this point is their longevity, but based upon most other reviews here, that does not seem to be an issue.

If you are considering these boots for the same reasons I was, go ahead and buy them, I promise you that you will be totally satisfied with their performance. Just an awesome boot for winter activity. Thanks for reading.

These boots are extremely warm and also really comfortable. One of the best parts is that when they are on they are really on and they do not come off during snow blowing or running around the yard with my son. But they also slip off really easily when you are done. I also really like the loops so I can hold them when I carry them around. In short, the boots are wonderful.

Very good basic rain boots, January 20, 2009

This review is from: Bogs Men’s Classic Ultra Hi Boot (Apparel)
This is a very good and sturdy pair of rain boots. Has been such a relief to not have to worry about avoiding puddles in rainy or slushy weather! The handles at the top make it easy to pull up the boots. The product is made of really good, durable material. Since the boots have no inside lining, one would need to wear thick socks though, in order to keep feet from freezing, so keep that in mind when considering the size.
