Welcome to San Diego County Trails Council

SDCTC IS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO THE ACQUISITION AND PRESERVATION OF RIDING, HIKING AND MOUNTAIN BIKING TRAILS THROUGHOUT THE SAN DIEGO REGION.

WELCOME!

Welcome to the new SDCTC web site! As you're about to see, this site is designed to help SDCTC fulfill its mission to serve our local trails community by providing the resources we all need for distributing information, discussing issues and joining together for the good of trails and open space throughout the San Diego region.

But this web site is only as good as the information and ideas that YOU help provide. You are invited to read, post and discuss news, messages and events that you feel are of interest to our local trails community.

SDCTC is an all volunteer trails advocacy organization. Members include equestrians, mountain bikers, hikers, and other individuals and organizations concerned about environmental issues, resource protection and outdoor recreational opportunities.

SDCTC's goal is to maintain a balance with the environment while encouraging the development of an interconnecting regional trails system linking public lands, communities and open spaces. Life With Trails

Every day, more people discover the beauty, adventure and solitude of recreational trails.Their mental and physical health benefits are immeasurable, and the positive social and economic impacts of trails are well-established. For nearly thirty years, San Diego County Trails Council (SDCTC) has been a driving force for trails support in the San Diego region. We believe the demand for trails will continue to grow throughout the twenty first century and we invite all users to join our efforts.

Trails In Need

SDCTC was organized in 1973 as an advisory organization to help preserve and promote a robust system of recreational trails throughout San Diego County. SDCTC is a grassroots, citizen-sponsored, nonprofit organization lead by a ìroundtableî of local trail leaders who are representative of the various types of non-motorized trail users who call San Diego County home.

The need for SDCTC is particularly great in the San Diego region. With so many land management agencies including federal, state, county, city and special districts, coordination across boundaries and among land managers is a difficult task. Land managers rely on trail users for input and insight regarding trail management issues. SDCTC helps to provide continuity and a responsible voice for the local trails community.

Our Mission and Goals

San Diego County Trails Council will continue as the lead trails advisory organization for other trail groups and land managers by providing education, expertise and support for the acquisition, preservation and maintenance of riding, hiking and mountain biking trails.

SDCTCís goal is to serve both environmental and recreational objectives by encouraging a sustainable, interconnecting regional trails system that addresses demand for recreational opportunities and encourages land stewardship among trail users.

SDCTC stays informed about local, state and national current events that may have an impact on trails. We work closely with equestrian, hiking, mountain biking and OHV organizations and local agencies to increase support and awareness for high-quality multi-use recreational trail opportunities.

In short, SDCTC is an organized constituency of local trail users. But we are much more than merely the sum of our parts ñ we are a united community of trail and backcountry enthusiasts who are making a difference for the future of recreational trails in the San Diego region.

Please help us assure that future generations will enjoy high-quality outdoor recreational and trail opportunities.

Services
